How Community Shares Benefits Your Workplace
Community Shares of Southern Arizona provides a broad spectrum of choices for giving. Shares offers local choices by focusing on organizations that operate in Southern Arizona to help maintain a diverse and vibrant community and meet needs specific to our community.
Many Shares member groups provide health and human services to our community; others, including arts organizations, environmental groups and civil rights groups, protect health and human welfare by addressing the root causes of social and environmental problems. Although our missions and services are varied, we recognize that we can work together to enhance opportunities for Southern Arizona’s non-profit organizations.
- Shares represents expanded choices in giving for your employees, and provides them with the opportunity to direct their donations toward programs that meet local needs and match their personal values.
- Shares currently has 32 member agencies to choose from, representing diverse and critical areas of need including health, education, human rights, the environment, children and families, mental health, and the arts.
- Shares is unique among local workplace campaigns in that is a coalition of member organizations. Membership is open to any local 501(c)(3) (tax-exempt) charitable organization that commits to a policy of non-discrimination that is at least as inclusive as the city of Tucson’s. This policy must apply not only to service delivery, but also to internal hiring and personnel practices.
- Shares member agencies must maintain a high level of financial accountability, and this is reviewed and guaranteed by Shares.
- Shares has a policy of total transparency in costs. Member organizations pay annual fees ranging from $100 to $1000 based on the size of the organization. Shares then charges a flat 10% of all money actually received to cover campaign costs. There are no other expenses either to the organization or the workplace.
- Shares distributes contributions designated to particular member organizations to those organizations. Contributions given to Shares in general are divided equally among all member organizations.
