Community Shares of Southern Arizona expands the base of philanthropy in our community by bringing together donors and agencies committed to the principles of inclusiveness, diversity and non-discrimination.
Who We Are
Community Shares of Southern Arizona is a coalition of non-profit organizations that serve Southern Arizona and that work at the heart of our community to enhance the quality of life for all our citizens. Shares conducts a workplace payroll deduction program to raise funds for its member organizations, offering employees a wide range of new choices for charitable giving. Shares allows Southern Arizonans to direct their donations to programs that meet local needs and match their personal values.
Our Objectives
Shares was founded in 2001 to provide another alternative to the workplace campaigns currently in place in our community. The coalition was created with three fundamental objectives:
- To address the diverse charitable-giving goals of employees while raising awareness of community needs.
- To increase community awareness of non-profit organizations serving Southern Arizona and provide them the opportunity to reach a wide audience for fundraising. Shares' member organizations focus on programs related to social, cultural and environmental concerns in Southern Arizona.
- To ensure that member agencies collectively decide for ourselves how dollars from the workplace are solicited and administered as well as how unrestricted gifts are distributed.
- To provide honest and full disclosure to donors, member organizations, employers and the general community about the policies, activities, and finances of Shares
