Community Shares Launches New Member Recruitment This Spring
Tucson, AZ (10 February 2006)—Community Shares is presently welcoming new members. Community Shares of Southern Arizona expands the base of philanthropy in our community by bringing together donors and agencies committed to the principles of inclusiveness, diversity and non-discrimination. Community Shares is a coalition of non-profit organizations that serve Southern Arizona that conducts a workplace payroll deduction program to raise funds for its member organizations, offering employees a wide range of new choices for charitable giving.
Community Shares board president, Pat Malloy says “We are looking forward to developing new partnerships with Tucson organizations to build on the strong work that Shares has done to date.”
New council members Nina Trasoff and Karin Uhlich are both founding members of Community Shares and support the mission as an alternative to traditional workplace giving programs. Trasoff emphasizes the unique importance of the organization. “Shares opens the door to workplace giving to so many organizations in our community. Our presence expands the base of philanthropy offering additional options to Tucsonans who respect our philosophy of non-discrimination, inclusion and diversity. The ultimate winners are the people in our community.”
Karin Uhlich, former Executive Director of the Primavera Foundation, emphasizes the social justice aspects of Community Shares. “As a networking and fundraising umbrella, Community Shares supports some of the finest grassroots arts and social justice organizations in our community. Shares helps donors invest in their favorite causes and helps cultivate the very best community based service and advocacy.”
Shares membership is open to any 501(c)(3) charitable organization that commits to a policy of non-discrimination. This policy must not only apply to service delivery, but also to internal hiring and personnel practices. For more information please visit www.communitysharesaz.org.
