Values and Guiding Principles

  • We value diversity. Our strength lies in the diversity of race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender expression, physical ability and religion of people involved with our member organization, including those they serve, employ and by whom they are governed.
  • We value nondiscrimination. In both provision of services and hiring, member organization must not discrimination the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, sexual orientation, ancestry, marital status, gender identity, religion and/or familial status. This policy must be adopted by the governing body of every member organization.
  • We value transparency, honesty and full disclosure to donors, member organizations, employers and the general community about the operations and administration of Community Shares of Southern Arizona.
  • We are guided by a desire to increase philanthropy in our community, not to complete with existing workplace fund-raising efforts or in any way impede their success.
  • We are guided by a desire to offer a range of choices for donors.
  • We are guided by the need for member agencies to collectively decide for ourselves how dollars from the workplace are solicited and administered as well as how unrestricted gifts are distributed.
  • We are guided by the need to increase philanthropic dollars to organization of all kinds in our community: human service agencies, arts organizations,environmental groups and social change advocates and activists.
  • We value inclusivity. Any non-profit organization is welcome to join as long as it embraces these values and guiding principles.
